LocalThink for macOS Is Now Available
LocalThink for macOS is a local-first desktop app to search, organize, and continue your saved AI conversations, built on the open LocalThink Format.

LocalThink for macOS is now available.
It is a local-first desktop app for the AI conversations you decide to keep: search them, organize them, and pick up where you left off.
Why We Built It
AI conversations are becoming part of how people think.
They hold decisions, research paths, drafts, and reasoning. But most of that thinking stays locked inside closed chat interfaces. Switch platforms and the context stays behind. Cancel a subscription and years of conversations can disappear. Looking for an idea from last week often means scrolling.
LocalThink Format (LTF) was our first answer: an open, Markdown-based .ltf.md file format, released under CC0, so a conversation can be a file you own. LTF Builder, our free Chrome extension, saves conversations from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok into that format, with no signup.
LocalThink for macOS is the next step. Once your conversations are files, you need a good place to work with them.
What LocalThink for macOS Does
- Search your saved conversations to find the reasoning behind an earlier idea.
- Organize your LTF files into a library you can revisit whenever you need it.
- Continue a conversation from where you stopped.
The workflow is simple: Save with LTF Builder, Organize in LocalThink, Continue when you are ready.
Local-First by Design
Your saved conversation library stays on your computer.
When you chat inside LocalThink, you can use a local model or an external provider that you configure yourself. The files stay readable Markdown, so you are not locked into one app.
Getting Started
- Open the LocalThink DMG on your Mac.
- Drag LocalThink into your Applications folder, then open the app.
- Sign in with your LocalThink ID, then open Settings to connect a cloud provider or prepare Ollama for local AI and semantic search.
The macOS download is available now for Apple silicon. Windows and Linux versions are coming soon.
Try It
Your AI conversations are part of how you think. They should belong to you.
