What LTF Builder Does
LTF Builder is a Chrome extension that exports ChatGPT web conversations as portable .ltf.md files.
After installation, you can:
- Open a ChatGPT conversation.
- Click LTF Builder.
- Click Capture.
- Review the metadata and preview.
- Download the conversation as a LocalThink Format file.
The exported file is plain Markdown with structured metadata, so it can be opened in editors, searched locally, backed up, versioned with git, or used by future LocalThink-compatible tools.
Why This Matters
AI conversations are becoming part of how people think.
They often contain decisions, research paths, project plans, code explanations, writing drafts, and personal reasoning.
But most of those conversations remain inside closed chat interfaces.
LocalThink Format exists so meaningful human-AI conversations can become ordinary files that people can own, move, inspect, preserve, and build on.
LTF Builder makes that practical for ChatGPT conversations.
It turns a conversation into a portable .ltf.md document without asking another AI to rewrite it and without requiring a LocalThink account.
Local-First by Design
LTF Builder is intentionally simple.
It runs only after the user clicks Capture.
It reads the current ChatGPT page in the browser, converts the conversation into readable Markdown, and prepares a local download.
Conversation content is not sent to LocalThink, OpenAI, analytics providers, or third-party services.
There is no signup.
There is no cloud sync.
There is no server-side conversion.
The result is a file you control.
What It Preserves
LTF Builder is designed to preserve the structure of useful conversations, including:
- human and AI turns
- code blocks
- lists
- tables
- links
- metadata such as title, language, tags, project, and visibility
- capture diagnostics such as turn count and code block count
The current public version focuses on ChatGPT web conversations.
Support for more AI platforms is planned, but the first release is deliberately conservative: one platform, one clear job, and a local-first export path.

LocalThink Format 1.0 is released under CC0 so that anyone can use it, implement it, extend it, translate it, or build tools on top of it.
